Finfind gets behind Soweto student change makers

Supreme Girls, an initiative aimed at teaching, uplifting, empowering and inspiring pre-teen and teen girls to make smart choices and become confident, capable and self-reliant young women recently held the first ever girls-only conference for Soweto youth.

Over 100 girls came together for an educational and motivational collaborative event, with the objective of providing girls with the tools to successfully navigate the obstacles of adolescence and emerge as confident and capable women. Participants joined from Sizanani Primary School in Dube, Mncube Secondary in Mofolo North and Emadwaleni Secondary School in Orlando West.

Finfind CEO, Darlene Menzies, was delighted to be able to offer support to this incredible initiative along with other companies such as Douglasdale Quality Dairy Products, Joburg Market, Show Time and Siyazenzela Trailers.

With sessions covering Rights, Responsibilities, Community Development, Education and Personal Development, the event saw a range of expert speakers share insight and inspiration for these young women of South Africa.

“Industry stakeholders need to support each other and offer each other a leg up where possible. Supreme Girls, which aims to equip girls to become change makers and raise a generation of bold and fearless leaders, is a space of empowerment. We are delighted that we could contribute to this,” Menzies says.

For Menzies, who has been nominated as one of the top inspiring women in South Africa and named one of Africa’s best women in technology, this is an incredibly positive initiative. She says, “There is so much opportunity for South African women, who can truly contribute to local economy and business. However, we need to give them the tools and the support to succeed. It’s initiatives like Supreme Girls that make this possible.”

As the CEO of Finfind, an online tool that helps business owners access funding from the private sector and the government, Menzies also believes in offering support to small businesses and initiatives – no matter how small.

With the Supreme Girls Leadership Academy resuming in February 2018, this initiative needs the following: Any perishable or non-perishable items for meals (workshops on Saturdays), Mandela Day Event partner and a conference partner and/or sponsor for a venue, transport, food and goodies. The Academy also needs T-shirts, sling bags, A4 books, a screen with a stand, projector, laptop, camera, chairs and foldable tables.
