Who is Stirling Recruitment?
Stirling Recruitment is a boutique financial and executive recruitment firm, and we pride ourselves on the personal and professional service we offer our national client base. Stirling Recruitment was born out of a desire to offer not just a recruitment service but a service of excellence, understanding and relationship. At Stirling we believe that the recruitment industry has lost the personal aspect of what it originally stood for and has thus become a faceless and impersonal industry.
Who is Tamara McMaster?
I, Tamara, have been in the recruitment industry for over 10 years, starting my career with Robert Half International in London, a NYSE listed Placement Company. I am passionate about making people’s dreams come true by introducing them to new opportunities and seeing them thrive in their new careers.
How long has your business been running for?
Stirling was started in June 2013. I had taken a break from the “working world” for 4 years to have my kids, but there was always a hunger inside me to carry on in recruitment at some point.
What made you start an employment agency?
In 2006 after returning from London I decided to start my own recruitment agency, McMaster Recruitment. I felt I had something unique to offer people so with nothing to lose I took a leap of faith. I ran McMaster Recruitment until I had my second child.
Do you enjoy what you are doing?
I LOVE what I do, I could never do anything else. I live and breathe recruitment and I’m always looking for an opportunity to network with someone, or link two people together (although I’m not very good at playing cupid). This industry has been tainted by some recruiters who don’t understand the value of people and power they hold, and I believe at Stirling we try to make every candidate know they are an important individual.
What makes your business unique?
I believe Stirling sees to the heart of the individual who is looking for employment and tries to offer a holistic solution to help the person secure employment. Stirling doesn’t see “numbers” at the office, we see faces, characters and dreams. On the client side, we spend a lot of time getting to know the companies we represent and the Line Managers. We value our relationships hugely and believe that in this competitive market, our good service and relationship building is going to be the key to sustaining us long term.
How many offices does Stirling have?
Currently we have a an admin office in Durban, purely for convenience sake as I’m based here but I do spend a lot of time travelling to Jhb. Stirling has a number of full-time/ part-time consultants who meet our candidates countrywide, and there is Eva Blazey who controls the back office (which I like to call the engine room).
What is your long term goal for the business?
We would like to branch out into other avenues e.g. coaching, but all in good time. I never want to lose the ‘something special’ that we currently have with our candidates and clients. I hope that our relationships continue to deepen and the business continues to grow through referrals as we have done all these years.
