Butlin hearing is a family owned Hearing Aid practice that was started by Laurie Butlin in 2007. Since Laurie’s retirement, Butlin hearing has been taken over by Brother and sister team of Claire Buys (nee Butlin) and Mark Butlin. Claire started her career in Finance, with a BCom degree, before deciding that the corporate life was not for her, and decided that her real passion was to make a difference in peoples lives, and thus to rather to follow in her fathers footsteps. She went back to her studies and joined the team at Butlin hearing. Having grown up in Howick, it was a easy decision to settle here and grow the already successful business.

Claire trained at Pretoria University as a Hearing Aid Acousticians, and has a passion for making the quality of life better for her clients, through improved communication ability. Butlin Hearing provides a variety of hearing aid brands, Siemens, Oticon, Widex and Phonak being the most requested. They offer personalized, professional hearing care, from Hearing Screening tests , Diagnostic testing, Fitting of hearing aids, as well as service and repair of all hearing aid brands, as well as also specialized ear protection.

Butlin Hearing has Rooms at the Wembley Pharmacy in Parklane centre , Pietermaritzburg, as well as the Woolworths centre in Howick, and at the Escourt Pharmacy. Due to the growing retirement community in the Howick area, we have recently opened our flagship office at the New St Johns Lifestyle Centre, on the Karkloof road in Howick, where you can find Heidi, who is available Mondays to Saturday to service and maintain your hearing aids, thus catering full time to the needs of our customers.

In October 2017, we expanded our client care options and welcomed Speech and Language Therapist, Nicole Stroebel to our team. Nicole caters to people of all ages with communication and swallowing difficulties.
