My physiotherapy practice is based in Houtbay, Cape-Town. I have a general practice and specialise in soft tissue (i.e. muscle, tendon, connective tissue, skin, lymphe)
To be able to facilitate the healing in my client I use many different techniques, learned during my training as a physiotherapist, post-graduate courses and in the complementary field of medicine.
In 2008 I completed a postgraduate course for lymphoedema through the Norton School. This gave me insight in the complexity of swelling and healing. In my practice I see mainly clients diagnosed with lymphoedema, grade 0 to 1. It is a challenge for me to inform and teach my clients how to manage their lymphoedema as positively as possible staying as independent as possible with the minimal intrusion in their daily life.
This means for some clients manual lymphdrainage weekly, compression stockings or a different lifestyle adjustments. I adjust the treatment to the individual needs of my clients, staying within the scope of my practice.
In 2011 I completed the women’s health physiotherapy post graduation course, which gave me a deeper insight of the body. This course gave me insight in breastfeeding, incontinence, menopause and it was a repeat course for the lymph drainage. At Groote Schuur Hospital, a colleague and I run the physiotherapy part of the continence clinic, which is great to do. To help to give women their power back in their daily life, through i.e. exercise, advice on fluid intake.
In my own private practice I enjoy working with the variety of problems my clients present me, which can be neck pain, tendinitis, lymphoedema, breastfeeding problems, stress, terminal care, preoperative advice or post-operative care, foot pain/swelling, tight muscles etc.
When possible home or hospital visits can be requested.
To keep my knowledge refreshed and up to date, I go to lectures and workshops, which are based on availability and on topics where I could improve my skill set or knowledge. I attend traditional medicine as well as complimentary lectures to keep an open mind to the knowledge available.
I am passionate to see changes in the tissue/skin/swelling/muscles, knowing that this will help the client in her/his daily life to be as independent as possible.
