Christine Darney Clinical Psychologist

 

Christine Darney is a registered Clinical Psychologist. She developed an interest in human behaviour at an early age and continues to feel passionate about working with, and better understanding, individuals’ thoughts, emotions and behaviour. Christine works with a variety of clients including adults, adolescents, children, couples and families. 

She completed her studies in her home town of Port Elizabeth where she obtained a Masters in Psychology degree (cum laude), as well as a Masters in Clinical Psychology degree, at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU). Her Masters Dissertation focused on the possible long-term effects that bullying at school may have on individuals’ self-esteem and attachment styles during young adulthood. Christine’s completed Masters Dissertation, for which she was awarded the 2010 Ford Premier Award for Best Masters Degree by Dissertation, was published by Lambert Academic Publishing in September 2010. In addition, she compiled a journal article on the impact that bullying at school has on an individual’s self-esteem during young adulthood, which was published by the International Journal of Education and Research (IJER) in August 2013.

Christine draws eclectically from a range of therapeutic modalities, in order to best suit the unique needs of each individual. Through psychotherapy, she facilitates self-awareness and personal growth in order to assist individuals to manage challenges in their personal, family, school and/or work environments more effectively. She utilizes play therapy, in order to assist children in the expression of their feelings, experiences and personal struggles. Christine also offers psychological and psychometric assessments which enable her clients to make informed decisions regarding their future life choices. 

Christine’s private practice is situated in Lovemore Heights, Port Elizabeth.  She is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as well as the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF) and is a member of the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA).
