Pho.to.gra.pher – “One who practices, or is skilled in, photography”
This is the definition as per the Oxford dictionary. To me personally, photography is so much more than that. Photographs capture those special, precious moments, they paint a picture or tell a story through images.
I hold a Diploma in digital & film photography with specialisation in digital Portrait Photography.
My passion for photography is ingrained in me via my father, a man who could create beautiful art in any medium presented to him. My father sadly passed away in 2010, but the lessons taught by him have remained.
We all remember those stiff upper lip family photo sessions. They were planned with German precision, and the end result looked like the family members would rather undergo a root canal with a trainee dentist, than repeat the forced poses and false Colgate smiles. I prefer a more relaxed, informal approach, without compromising professionalism or artistic integrity.
I am not restricted to family portraits, my experience extends to photographing maternity shoots, infants, couples, families, and even weddings. With each and every photograph I try to capture every nuance and essence of the events and the people.
All photographs are there to remind us of what we forget. In this – as in other ways – they are the opposite of paintings. Paintings record what the painter remembers. Because each of us forgets different things, a photo, more than a painting, may change its meaning according to who is looking at it. John Berger
I grew up in the Boksburg, East of Johannesburg, where I still reside and operate from my home studio. I am however not geographically restricted and arrangements can be made for photo shoots in other areas.
As a Mom to three gorgeous children, Dannique (7.5), Deané (6) and Danyelle (5), photography has been a release valve from my hectic lifestyle. It is more than a hobby, it is my life, which is evident in my attention to detail and creativity. My aim is to have relaxed clients and for them to JUST HAVE FUN!
I am supported by my loving, long-suffering husband, Fanie. For the past 9 years of marriage he has encouraged me and supported me in this venture, without him I would not have been able to embark on this journey.
The goal is not the change the subjects, but for the subject to change the photographer.
