Georgina Dempster is an Educational Psychologist in private practice based in Pineslopes, Fourways. Her career in education began in the teaching field where she spent 9 years working as a Foundation Phase Remedial teacher with learners with specific learning difficulties.
Georgina then studied further and completed a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology at the University of Pretoria. Upon completion of her degree, Georgina began her internship as a psychologist at a prominent private school in the high school phase. She remained at the school for 5 years where she was responsible for the functioning of the learning support centre. Included in fulfilling her role as psychologist she offered career guidance, emotional support and parent support and guidance. A major part of Georgina’s experience was ensuring the structures were in place to support learners in need of educational accommodations so as to flourish in a mainstream schooling environment which included study skills and implementation of the accommodations granted.
Georgina entered into private practice with a vast knowledge of specific learning difficulties and strategies to accommodate those learner’s specific needs within a school setting. She incorporates positive psychology and solution focused aspects within her work with children of all ages.
As an educational psychologist, she focusses on various aspects of learner development which include physical, social, cognitive, educational and emotional aspects. This allows for collaborative supportive techniques through means of assessment and therapeutic interventions. The following services are being offered within her scope of practice: psycho-educational assessments, school readiness assessments, career assessments and guidance, IEB/GDE concession assessments as well as play therapy, individual therapy and parent guidance.
