Occupational Therapists (OT’s) help people of all ages develop, recover or maintain the physical, cognitive and psychosocial skills they need for daily living. Whether recovering from a recent injury, learning to live with a chronic condition, or somewhere in between, OTs meet an individual exactly where they are at and provide personalised strategies to enhance their well-being and achieve their individual goals. My specific area of interest and expertise since 2015 is in the field of adult neurology. For me, being an OT might mean helping an elderly woman who recently sustained a stroke to learn to dress and wash herself again; it could be enabling a young man with a traumatic brain injury and cognitive fallout to use a computer and pay his bills again; it may mean empowering a person with a chronic illness to continue to raise her children and manage her home by adopting health-promoting lifestyle changes or adapting their routine; or it could be educating a family as they learn to support and stimulate their beloved grandfather who has just been diagnosed with dementia. The list is endless, and that is the beauty of OT – every client’s story and need is unique, which keeps my work rewarding in so many different ways.

Some of the main conditions I work with are: Strokes, dementia/Alzheimer’s, neuropsychiatric conditions (e.g., ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, depression and anxiety etc.), acquired/traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and diseases, neuro visual impairment, and chronic pain. I have practices based in Parkview and in Rivonia, and I also provided home visits for clients unable to leave their homes.
