I am a Counselling Psychologist working in Pietermaritzburg KwaZulu Natal in IsiZulu and English. I am an eclectic therapist, borrowing both from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and short term Psychodynamic therapy to find patterns in our behavior and thinking that are problematic, and to tailor make therapy for clients. I enjoy working with children, which extends to their families, and particularly enjoy helping parents to understand their children's behavior and changing problematic behaviors. Coming from an African perspective to psychology, I am able to understand many cultural aspects to psychopathology.
I work with people who present with mental health problems such as trauma, educational difficulties, adjustment disorders and career decision making. Career decision making includes grades 9-12, and tertiary students. I work with adults (individual therapy), adolescents and children (assessments and play-therapy). I also provide treatment for Depression and Anxiety, Bereavement/Loss, Eating disorders, Adjustment difficulties, Child and Adolescent Assessment and issues around general personal growth and development (such as improving self-esteem, assertiveness training, parenting, etc).
I believe that mental health problems should not be hidden and be used to stigmatize those suffering from them. Instead sufferers need treatment and support which is what I offer.
