Pauline is a professional and registered Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Boksburg. She is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), the Board of Health Care Funders (BHF) as well as the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA). As a Clinical Psychologist, she can provide you with a personal and confidential environment in which to discuss your difficulties and concerns.
Furthermore as a Clinical Psychologist, Pauline offers a range of different services. She provides psychotherapy/counselling for children from the age of 3 years onwards, adolescents and adults as well as couples and families. In addition, she also provides intellectual and emotional assessments for children, adolescents and adults from the age of 7 years. She also performs Forensic/Medico-legal assessments and evaluations (criminal and civil).
Pauline completed her Honours degree in Psychology at the University of Johannesburg, cum laude in 2005 and went on to complete her Master’s degree in Psychology also at the University of Johannesburg during 2006, graduating in 2008 cum laude. Her master’s dissertation was titled "The lived experience of violence by male juvenile offenders convicted of assault", supervised by Mr P. Basson. During 2009, she presented a paper at the 15th South African Psychology Congress on her dissertation.
During 2007, she worked at Tara Psychiatric Hospital as an Intern Psychologist, specifically in the Children’s Clinic (consulting with children as outpatients) and Children’s Ward (consulting with children as inpatients) gaining experience in one of her passions – play therapy - and then in the Adolescent and Eating Disorders Unit. She gained experience consulting with children and adolescents through psychotherapycounselling and assessments experiencing a wide range of difficulties such as ADHD/ADD, separation anxiety, adjustment disorders, trauma, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, bipolar mood disorder, enuresis, encopresis, mutism, behavioural difficulties, sleeping difficulties, divorce, loss, anorexia, bulimia, behavioural difficulties, attempted suicide and self-harming behaviour as well as psychosis and substance abuse (alcohol and drugs).
Pauline then went on to complete her community service at Heidelberg Hospital in the East Rand, which is a general district level hospital, where she, once again, received a wide range of exposure working with a spectrum of Mental Health Disorders and health conditions that have an impact on an individual’s psychological well-being with individuals (children, adolescents and adults), families and couples of all ages. These included personality disorders, substance abuse, HIV/Aids, mood disorders (depression and bipolar), schizophrenia and psychosis, trauma, loss and bereavement, anxiety and PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder)
Since 2009, Pauline has been registered in Independent Practice as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and was employed at Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital until 2011 when she opened her own practice. She was also a Dual staff member of the University Of Witwatersrand (WITS).
She initially worked in the Female Units at Sterkfontein where she offered individual and group psychotherapy/counselling to females with depression, bipolar mood disorder, schizophrenia, substance abuse, psychosis, personality disorders, post traumatic stress disorder and anxiety related disorders. A few months later she then started working in the Forensic/Neuro-Sciences (medico-legal) Units where she performed medico-legal assessments and individual, group, couples and family psychotherapy/counselling. As a result she has experience in a wide range of mental health disorders/difficulties and psychological/psychometric assessments (intellectual, neuro-, emotional, personality and malingering).
Pauline also has a passion for working with adolescents and play therapy and was extensively involved in the creation of and management of the State Adolescent Unit at Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital. During this time she also published a book
