“Change happens through movement and movement heals” (Joseph Pilates).
Celia Beaumont is 64, and she sees her experience like a patch-work quilt (broad and rich in variety and colour). Diversity is her life, and she thrives when it is a potpourri of different cultures and activities.
Celia fires on all cylinders when involved with projects/processes that have people and their welfare at heart. She is a Lifestyle & Well-Being Facilitator and Pilates Practitioner who believes deeply in the oneness and unity of humankind, who seeks to accept life as a serious, learning, purposeful and humorous endeavour, and who feels passionate about the sharing of knowledge and skills.
Until her mid-50s, Celia was involved mostly in skills training (business, communication, participative management), micro-projects and financial administration. Then, after recovery from heavy metal poisoning, she specifically turned her attention to Health & Well-Being, and recently opened Studio4u.org in Cradock.
The main focus of the Studio has been upon Pilates, which Celia experiences as a wonderful mind-body discipline that “develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit” (Joseph Pilates).
She says that Pilates works from the inside out, using a balanced sequence to re-teach the body correct form and movement. We learn how to listen intently to the body, how to connect to it without attempting to triumph over it, and how to extend its boundaries with practice and time. The improvement to core strength and posture reduces stress on the spine and facilitates efficient functioning of the inner organs, and in the process we discover how to use the Breath to provide a rhythm for the movements and to calm the body and the mind. Some other enrichments inherent in a Pilates sequence include: Awareness, Balance, Concentration, Control, Centring, Efficiency (“never do 10 pounds of exercise for a 5 pound movement” – Joseph Pilates), Flow & Fluidity, Harmony, Imagination, Intuition, Integration and Precision.
To enhance further inner movement, Studio4u.org’s services are now extending to include motivating workshops and retreats that involve lifestyle and character self-assessment with skills for transformation.
