I think I can remember the very first moment I realized I wanted to be a photographer – of what I wasn’t sure but a photographer all the same - I was on a school tour at an art museum, I must have been around 16 years old, and in front of me stood a picture of a women, bare from neck to navel, with what appeared to be several names tattooed all over her body in blue/purple ink. They were stamped on her the way one would tag grading on meat such as pork. She had numerous names on her body, male and female alike. Something about that imagery left me curious, intrigued, disturbed, and moved all at the same time. That image has stayed with me for the past 16 plus years. Not so much because that is the kind of art I had imagined myself capturing but rather because of the impression and emotion it evoked in me.
I left the corporate industry and started TGL (The Grey Lens) a year and a half ago. I have yet to look back and regret this decision. I am blessed and privileged to do what I love to do, every day! I believe life is short and more importantly, a gift. If what you’re doing isn’t adding, challenging or inspiring you; there shouldn’t be any room in your life for it.
As a family & event photographer I strive to make the memories and moments I capture, arouse an emotion in both the subject and the viewer. If they stir your heart, bring a smile, a tear to your face then I would have accomplished what We have set out to do.
“A photograph is a piece of our memory that we get to hold onto long after the moment is gone” – S. Ramos
