It’s Clay Time at the Clay Cafe in Hout Bay

This weekend I was fortunate enough to visit the Clay Cafe out in Hout Bay. Despite the fact that the Clay Cafe has suffered fire damage, the business remains open and operating in full swing. The team has taken great care to keep the premises neat and if you did not know about the unfortunate event of the fire, chances are you probably would not notice as management has taken great care to keep the premises looking neat and lovely for customers to still enjoy this awesome outing.

If you are from Cape Town or just visiting chances are your checklist for a fun day out are along the lines of the following:
• Wine or beer
• Great food
• Something new and exciting to experience
• Great views
• Something for the kids (if you have kids)
• Scenic drive of surrounding area
Luckily, the Clay Cafe has all of the above. It is for everyone, families, couples, first dates, team building, book clubs, hen parties you name it! You might be thinking that you are not very creative, this is how I felt, but The Clay Cafe has thought of everything, they have all sorts of tools, paints and studio equipment for you to make use of to ensure that you create something beautiful and try something new or for those seasoned artists, put your talents to good use. They have taken the necessary steps to make everyone feel comfortable by having proper equipment in place and for your booking session to run swiftly.

It is imperative to make a booking to the Clay Cafe as they are quite popular and to also ensure that when you are seated you are not rushed and can take full advantage of the selection of food, drinks and snacks available as well as enjoy the lovely views and for those with kids there is a great play area featuring a bespoke jumping equipment arena called go boing’s which is unique to this establishment.

There are two seating options, inside or outside meaning come rain or shine, rest assured they can accommodate you which is great! There are also tented structures outside to shelter you from the sun or wind, as well as heaters for the chillier days out and they have the prettiest iron cast fires places you have ever seen. The facilities can also be used for birthday parties, events, team excursions and so forth, please contact the Clay Cafe if you would like them to host you. They also host various wine estates once a month for a wine and painting pairing which is a really exciting opportunity for the adult creatives to book an evening out.

Your item will need to be collected approximately 3 weeks after your painting session as the item needs to be baked and glazed for it to have that beautiful bright and shiny feel and of course to make sure the colours and your artwork does not deteriorate – something to look forward to. Despite the fire damage and loss of almost half of their equipment, the team has not compromised on their turn around time and are still getting items out within 3 weeks of painting which is quite amazing to say the least.

The Clay Cafe really ticks all the boxes in terms of something to do, trying something new, creating memories, having something to show for those memories, fun activity and of course not to mention delicious food and drinks if you stay for a bite as well as beautiful surrounding views and lovely fresh air!
