The Western Cape’s favourite entertainment destination, The Caledon Casino (https://www.tsogosun.com/the-caledon-casino), is celebrating women who work in the casino industry this Women’s Month. Meet some of the ladies who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure visitors have an ongoing feast of entertainment 7 days a week, 365 days a year!

Natalie De Bruyn, Human Resources Manager for The Caledon Casino, Hotel, Spa and Entertainment, will be celebrating her 20-year work anniversary with Tsogo Sun this year. She recognises that the biggest challenge women face in any industry is being accepted as a valued and equal business partner. When asked what her biggest stumbling block at work is, she replied keeping her work and home life separate, keeping things simple and not over thinking situations. In her position it is also very important for her to keep neutral and always provide the best and most suitable advice or guidance, depending on the circumstances. Even though her pet hate is finding a parking in a full parking lot, her first real life-changing experience was driving a car. This enabled her to get mobile and move forward in life. Natalie, an avid puzzle fanatic, loves seeing people happy and growing in their careers and personal lives. She believes that it takes real hard work and sometimes having to deal with difficult circumstances to grow as a person. Natalie loves people and has a passion for entertainment, which is what she believes you need to thrive in her line of work. What can she not live without? Her handbag – because it comes with an entourage of other essentials!

Natasha Kennedy, Caledon’s Spa Manager, is all about balance and lipstick – she can’t live without either! Natasha believes that everyone needs balance for their lives to fall into place. She achieves balance by working smart and getting as much as possible done during the work day. She does, however, have to remind herself that this is not always achievable but aims for it as best as she can. When she is home, she disconnects from work, and when she is at work, she works. It took losing her luggage for Natasha to learn one of her biggest epiphanies in life: you can’t avoid negative situations but you can change how you respond to them. On a positive note, Natasha’s most memorable day at Caledon was her first day of work. As someone whose pet hate is inconsiderate people, she will never forget how kind and considerate her colleagues were towards her, even though they had tight schedules. They still treat her the same way – which is what makes her work day so enjoyable. But the most rewarding part of her work day is creating memorable moments for her customers. Natasha admits that her passion is people and skincare – and that is what is required to be successful in her industry.
